Deputy Sheriff Steve C. Newitt
Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, LA
Deputy Newitt was killed when his motorcycle collided with the back of a vehicle as he was driving south on Clearview Parkway. As he reached the crest of an overpass the sun went into his eyes, making him unable to see the traffic ahead of him. He then struck the back of the last car in traffic and was thrown over top it.  It is believed he was killed instantly upon striking the pavement. He had been with his department for eight years.

Sergeant Timothy Clyde Minor
Charles County Sheriff's Office, MD
Sergeant Minor died of injuries received in a motorcycle accident while responding to a call to assist an elderly person. While responding a van pulled out in front of him. He attempted evasive action but his motorcycle overturned. He had been with the department for 17 years.

Officer David Wayne Manning
California Highway Patrol, CA
Officer Manning died of injuries which he received sometime on January 25, 1996. Officer Manning was found in a field next to his crashed motorcycle, approximately seven hours after the accident. Officer Manning was returning home from his shift and it is not known what the circumstances are leading up to the crash. Investigators are looking into the possibilities that Officer Manning was hit by a car or involved in a pursuit at the time of the crash.

Corporal Owen Patrick McClinton
Mobile Police Department, AL
Corporal McClinton was killed while en route to a traffic assignment when his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle. Witnesses state the vehicle struck Corporal McClinton intentionally.  He is survived by his wife and two children. On December 21, 1996, another Mobile officer located the vehicle and the owner who was arrested. The driver was on probation for drug trafficking at the time of the accident and was scared to admit he was involved.
