Patrolman Louis A. Barney Joliet Police Department, IL Patrolman Barney succumbed to injuries received three days earlier when he was involved in an on-duty motorcycle accident. He was assisting with a special traffic detail during the Pageant of Progress when his motorcycle struck the rear left corner of a truck. Patrolman Barney was able to walk away from the accident but suffered a subdural hemorrhage later that evening. He remained in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries. Patrolman Barney was a WWII veteran and had been with his agency for 12 years. He was survived by his wife, two daughters, parents, and two siblings. |

Constable George Constantineau Ottawa Police Ontario Constable Constantineau had just completed a motorcycle escort at the French Embassy. He was returning to the station when crossing the newly opened Bytown Bridge. His motorcycle struck an 8" curb and he was thrown and struck his head which resulted in his death. The bridge had only been opened 12 hours and this was the second accident. |
