January 12, 1942 Officer Robert C. Heller California Highway Patrol, CA Officer Robert C. Heller was struck and killed when a motorist failed to stop at an intersection and collided with Heller's motorcycle. The driver of the vehicle was booked on suspicion of negligent homicide. The 25-year old patrolman had graduated from the Academy only five months earlier.

January 18, 1942 Patrolman John M. McCullough Columbus Division of Police, OH Patrolman McCullough was killed in a motorcycle accident while on duty. He had been with the agency for just under one year.

January 29, 1942 Patrol Officer James Reilly Indianapolis Police Department, IN Officer Reilly was killed in a motorcycle accident while chasing a violator on W. Washington Street.

April 05, 1942 Patrolman Roger Q. Harriss Texas Department of Public Safety, TX Patrolman Harriss was killed when a truck struck his patrol motorcycle.  Patrolman Harriss had been with the agency for six months.

April 14, 1942 Trooper Charles Wood Michigan State Police, MI Trooper Wood was killed in a motorcycle accident on M-29 near the St. Clair State Police Post. As he attempted to make an adjustment to the engine he lost control and struck culvert.

May 03, 1942 Officer Scott Leatherman California Highway Patrol, CA Officer Scott Leatherman was pursuing a speeding motorist on a road near Newhall when the wheel of his motorcycle apparently developed a high-speed wobble causing Leatherman to lose control and crash. The 29-year-old patrolman was a member of the CHP for only one year.

August 10, 1942 Officer Clinton Benjamin California Highway Patrol, CA Officer Clinton Benjamin was on routine patrol when his motorcycle skidded, causing the patrolman to lose control. Benjamin was thrown to the ground and died from his injuries.

September 14, 1942 Trooper William Howard James Tennessee Highway Patrol, TN Trooper James died while operating a motorcycle in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

October 28, 1942 Officer Byron L. Todd Indianapolis Police Department, IN On October 28, 1942, Officer Byron L. Todd was killed when he was thrown from his police motorcycle after it became stuck in the street car tracks at the intersection of East Brookside Avenue and North Rural Street.

November 08, 1942 Frederick W. Coblentz San Antonio Police Department, TX Officer Coblentz died while operating his police motorcycle.
