Trooper Cahill was killed instantly when his motorcycle sideswiped a car on the Albany-Schenectady Road in the Town of Colonie. Trooper Cahill was in pursuit of a speeding car when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck another car. He was thrown from his motorcycle and died of a fractured skull. Trooper Cahill had been with the agency for three years

Patrolman Richard J. Coughlin

Patrolman Coughlin was killed in a motorcycle accident while pursuing a speeding motorist.

Patrolman Coughlin was on patrol when he observed a vehicle speeding south on Nostrand Avenue, Brooklyn. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. As he was pursuing the vehicle, Patrolman Coughlin’s motorcycle was struck by a vehicle at the corner of Nostrand Avenue and Newkirk Avenue. 
Patrolman Coughlin was taken to Kings County Hospital with a fractured skull. He died two days later from his injuries.
Patrolman Coughlin was assigned to the Motorcycle Precinct 2, the present day Highway 2.

Deputy Sheriff George R. Zorodney 
Lake County Sheriff's Department Indiana

Deputy George Zorodney was killed in a motorcycle accident while testing out a motorcycle for the newly formed motor squad. He was driving the motorcycle between Crown Point and Cedar Lake when he crossed the center line and was struck by another vehicle head-on.
Deputy Zorodney had also served as a Minneapolis, Minnesota, police officer. He was survived by his wife.

Officer Johnson was killed when his police motorcycle was struck by a car at Third and Victory Streets. He had been with the agency for three years.

Trooper Charles Hash
Tennessee Highway Patrol, TN
Patrolman Hash died (31) while operating a motorcycle in Memphis. He was travelling on Bristol Avenue when a car turned in front of him onto Graham Avenue. Patrolman Hash's motorcycle struck the front of the car and he was thrown from the bike.
He was transported to Methodist Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries 8 days later.
Patrolman Hash was a U.S. Navy veteran and served as the agency's sergeant of the Memphis District. He was survived by his mother and three sisters.

Policeman Kaiser succumbed to injuries sustained two days earlier when his motorcycle struck a utility pole on Archer Avenue, near 79th Street, while he was attempting to stop a speeding vehicle.
He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital where he remained until succumbing to the injuries

Trooper Sweeney was killed in a motorcycle accident in Nassau County when a truck struck his police motorcycle at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Babylon Turnpike. Trooper Sweeney had been with the agency for six years.

Officer Hattaway succumbed to injuries sustained in an on duty motorcycle accident three months earlier.

Patrolman William Charles Everett 
Lynbrook Police Department New York

Patrolman Everett was killed when he collided with a fire truck while on motorcycle patrol. Patrolman Everett was cruising his post, traveling north on Union Avenue in Lynbrook, when a fire truck pulled into the intersection of Union Avenue and Union Place. Patrolman Everett attempted to avoid the fire truck and his motorcycle skidded into the right rear of the fire truck and threw Patrolman Everett under the wheel. Patrolman Everett was rushed to the hospital at approximately 1030 hours and died of his injuries while on the operating table at 1240 hours. Patrolman Everett died on his first day assigned to Motorcycle Patrol.

Patrolman Everett had been with the agency for three years and was survived by his wife and son

Patrolman Daniel F. Murphy

Patrolman Daniel Murphy was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was turning at the intersection of Centre Avenue and Pelham Road when he was struck by an automobile and thrown from his motorcycle. Patrolman Murphy was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries five days later. Patrolman Murphy was survived by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers. He previously earned a commendation for saving a bedridden invalid from a house fire.

Patrolman Pautzke was killed in a motorcycle accident while rushing to the scene of a murder investigation in Boulevard Park. His motorcycle collided with a gravel truck at First Avenue South and Burien.

Officer Jones was killed in a motorcycle accident while on duty.
Officer Jones had served with the agency for 17 months. He was survived by his wife.

Trooper Edward Sweeney was killed in a motorcycle accident in Nassau County when a truck struck his police motorcycle at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Babylon Turnpike. 

Trooper Sweeney had been employed with the New York State Police for six years.

Policeman Bryant was killed when his motorcycle struck a ditch while he and his partner attempted to stop a speeding vehicle. The accident occurred on Higgins Road near River Road. He was taken to Westlake Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Policeman Bryant was survived by his wife and two children.

Officer DeShazo was killed in a motorcycle accident while providing escorting Charles Lindbergh through Morris County. During the trip Officer DeShazo was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries.
Officer DeShazo had served with the Dover Police Department for 8 years.

Patrolman Casper was on duty when his motorcycle struck a car turning left. Casper received multiple broken bones and internal injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Patrolman Casper was a WWII veteran and had motorcycle experience during his enlistment. He was survived by a wife and two children.

Patrolman Murray was killed in an accident on Bigelow Boulevard near Kirkpatrick Street when an automobile struck his motorcycle. Patrolman Murray was transported to Mercy Hospital where he died as result of his injuries.

Patrolman Nels Christy was killed in a motorcycle accident. Patrolman Christy was on patrol riding his police motorcycle when a truck failed to stop at a stop sign. The truck went through the intersection and struck Patrolman Christy.

Trooper Jones died while operating a motorcycle in Nashville He was survived by his wife and two children.

Sergeant Rupert L. Shepherd
Des Moines Police Department, IA
Sergeant Shepherd was killed in a motorcycle accident while on routine patrol. As he rode his motorcycle across the streetcar tracks at 29th and University Avenue his tires got caught in the track grooves, throwing him off balance. As he tried to regain control he was thrown into a steel trolley pole. He later succumbed to his injuries.
He had been with the agency for seven years.

Officer Clyde C. Moore

Officer Moore was killed in a motorcycle accident while escorting a fire truck to the scene of a fire. During the response his path became blocked by a streetcar and a parked car where were in front of him. He attempted to drive his Harley Davidson police motorcycle over the curb but lost control and struck a utility pole.
Officer Moore's motorcycle was restored and put on display in the agency's museum. Officer Moore had been with the agency for eight months.

Motor Scout Mills was killed in a motorcycle accident on Arkadelphia road while on patrol.

Inspector Thomas Allen Belt
Virginia State Police, VAInspector Belt succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident several days earlier while on patrol in Hamilton, Loudoun County. He was taken to Loudoun Hospital where he died.
Inspector Belt was survived by his wife, son, two daughters, three brothers, and sister.
On March 14, 1942, the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles was split into the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of State Police. The Virginia State Police assumed highway patrol duties while the Department of Motor Vehicles Enforcement Division assumed investigative duties.

Officer Edgar J. Combs
California Highway Patrol, CA
Edward J. Combs, 33, member of Kern Unit (Bakersfield), California State Highway Patrol, was injured fatally in a late night motorcycle accident. His motor turned over on the Golden State Highway (99) near Famosa, a tire blew out at a rail crossing, he was thrown 70 feet. He died early the next morning.
The accident occurred at the railroad-highway crossing 21 miles north of bakersfield about 11:30 p.m. The motorcycle’s front tire exploded when it struck the tracks and the traffic officer volplaned more than 70 feet through the air and struck the pavement head first, fracturing his skull. He died about five hours later.  Combs had been employed with the Kern unit of the state system for about nine months. He was born in Missouri and lived in Bakersfield for the past 10 years.

Policeman Thomas Locashio was killed when his motorcycle collided with an automobile at the outer extension of Barry Avenue.
Officer Locashio was survived by his two children.

Officer Rogers was killed when his police motorcycle struck an open manhole cover, causing him to crash.

Trooper Frank M. Schwartz
Illinois State Police, IL
Trooper Schwartz succumbed to injuries received four days earlier when he was involved in a motorcycle accident while on duty. He was patrolling Barr Highway to keep the heavy traffic moving while the city of Joliet conducted ceremonies opening its new airport. While on patrol his motorcycle collided with a car, causing his leg to be crushed. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries four days later.
Trooper Schwartz was a WWI veteran and had been in law enforcement for ten years. He was survived by his wife.

Officer Frank J. Scoville
Metropolitan Police Department, DC
Officer Scoville was killed when his police motorcycle struck a garbage truck at 5th and Q Streets, NW, while he chased a speeding car. Upon impact the motorcycle flipped in the air and landed on his chest.
Officer Scoville had been with the agency for nine years and was survived by his wife

Oswego Police Department, NY
Patrolman Proud succumbed to injuries sustained almost two months earlier when his police motorcycle struck a telephone pole near the intersection of West Seneca Street and Fifth Avenue. Patrolman Proud returned to the police department following the accident and attempted to rest. After several hours his condition began to worsen and he was taken to Oswego Hospital where he lapsed into a comma. He never regained consciousness before succumbing to his injuries.

Patrolman Proud had served with the Oswego Police Department for 7 years. He was survived by his wife, two sons, father, three sisters, and three brothers.

Patrolman Better was killed in a motorcycle accident while patrolling Route 1 in the town of Danvers. Another vehicle had swerved into his lane, striking him head-on.
Patrolman Better had been with the agency for seven months.

Patrolman Walter Senk
New York City Police Department, NY
Patrolman Senk was killed in a motorcycle accident while pursuing a speeding motorist.

Patrolman Senk was on motorcycle patrol in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, when he observed a speeding motorist. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but it refused to stop. Patrolman Senk began to pursue the vehicle near 5th Avenue when he struck a park worker who stepped out into the street in front of him. Patrolman Senk was thrown from his motorcycle and struck his head on the pavement. He was removed to Methodist Episcopal Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Patrolman Senk was assigned to Motorcycle Precinct 2, the present day Highway 2.

Officer Landry was killed in a motorcycle while stopping a car on Tuam Avenue. His motorcycle struck the back of the vehicle he was stopping as the driver slowed to turn into a parking lot.

Officer Landry was survived by his wife, parents, sister and three brothers.
