Chief of Police Henry P. Tracey

Chief Tracey was killed in a motorcycle accident while riding on the back of a motorcycle with another officer. The motorcycle was struck by a truck. He had just returned to service after recovering from a bullet wound received while chasing a suspect. Chief Tracey had only been chief for four years and had no prior law enforcement experience. 
May 19, 1915

Officer Otto G. Ostby 
Minneapolis Police Department Minnesota
28 year old Officer Ostby was killed when his police motorcycle struck the rear of a streetcar on Bloomington Avenue as he responded to a burglary call. As he attempted to pass the streetcar an automobile suddenly turned into his path. Officer Ostby attempted to avoid striking the car and struck the rear fender of the streetcar. Officer Ostby had been with the agency for five years and was survived by his wife and 5-year-old daughter.

Sergeant Oliver S. Hopkins 
San Diego Police Department California
Sergeant Hopkins 47 was killed when his police motorcycle was intentionally struck by a suspect in a pickup truck. Upon being hit his motorcycle got stuck under the truck and he was dragged more than a block. He succumbed to injuries while in surgery three hours later. The suspect was later arrested by the Chief of police and subsequently sentenced to two years. Sergeant Hopkins had been promoted to sergeant the previous day and requested he stay on motorcycle patrol. He had been with the agency for two years and was survived by his wife, children, and parents.
