(Pettis County Sheriff's Department)
My Department has one of the creative lease agreements with the local Harley Davidson dealer. We have a $1 a year agreement for the use of the bike with a new one traded in at the end of the year. Out department is fairly small, and has a large rural population. The bike is not the most practical unit here, but has been a lot of fun at special events.
I'm going on my third year with the motor, and have taken over the majority of the cost, to keep the bean counters from cutting the project. The county covers the insurance, I have covered the emergency equipment and fuel. We split the maintenance depending on where I put the miles on. Since I cover the associated cost, they don't say much about where I go.
A couple of the guys from the local HOG group invited me to go to Sturgis with them this year. We rode out, lasted several days, and the day before we were to return, the cam bearings (88 Twin Cam) came apart.
In the picture are Tim and Doug, who on a minutes notice, drove all night tocome and get me. No matter what you think of the Rapid City Harley Dealer, there was no way to get a bike in the shop the day after Sturgis ended.  Although they used the rescue mission to hold against me in several other areas, they were still there with no complaints.
Since they were in the area, we decided to follow the tourist trail a little while. Although I hate to see a bike in the back of a truck, this was an odd place to see one. While I rode to the event, I made a bunch of stops for pictures and other coments from the masses. The police motors really bring em out.
